Philips Consumer Lifestyle
February 2016 - November 2017
As an MSc graduate intern Industrial Design Engineering at Philips Consumer Lifestyle - Innovation Team Male Grooming, I carried out a MSc graduation project by independently creating a value proposition for a distant emerging market. During this project I applied for Philips non-traditional tools to come to a validated value proposition. Most applied tools en techniques originate in the field of lean startup and customer development. Applied tools include, among others, street interviews, phone interviews, rating and review analysis, web data scraping, minimum viable product testing and landing page creation. End result is an partially validated proposition with prototyped function in embodiment and an evaluation of applied tools for future value proposition creation.

The aim of the courses is to do a design the next evolutionary step in a chosen product category. During the first course, Evolutionary Product Development Research, an analysis of the Cycle Computer was made. The analysis resulted in a Design Solution Space (Product Evolution Theory by A.O. Eger). The second course deals with the design of chosen product. First a brand is selected for which a brand analysis is made. Next a product design is made, this design is evaluated multiple times with a fictive the stakeholder.

This sustainable re-useable rolling action display exists of a set of HDPE trays designed for a 600x400mm dolly; trays can be removed if the beer is sold, trays can be re-used in the store or send back to Grolsch stacked on each other. The bottom tray (red) differs from the rest (green), this tray needs to carry and distribute the load, where the rest just functions as a separator plate.
Each tray has room for 54 cans or 9 six-packs. Both 33 and 50cl cans can be used. A carton board can be placed on top of each tray, this part is not designed to be re-used and can have different graphical designs depending on the kind of beer and the communication needed. An extra topper card can be added to the top tray.
